My submission to Fresh Modern Quilts for one of their blog button/badges was one of the top three in the voting...actually first! See it there on the right? Click on it and it will take you to the fantastic Flickr group of very talented Fresh Modern Quilters. That quilt now lives with Lynz in Scotland!!:)
And I mailed my doll quilt for the Doll Quilt Swap 8....it even made it on the latest post on the Doll Quilt Swap Blog! Is it coming to you?:) But I guess what you really want to know is who won the Valentine Mini!! I'll not keep you in suspense any more...the winner is Ann (Six on Seventh)!! Congratulations Ann! I'll be contacting you for your mailing info ASAP! I want to thank everyone for your lovely comments...you sure do make my head swell!!;)
Oh...and one more good thing....our cherry tomato "tree" has over 35 little round lovelies on it....well...31....we picked four today!! ~d
Woke up to lovely sunshine, lovely cards from my sweeties and lovely chocolate chip pancakes!:) What more can one ask for....other than the snow to melt?
I know...I was feeling so great I made these little Valentine minis....all 11" of love, one for me and one for you!
Seems the hardest part of making anything is picking out the fabric and then laying it out....that took just as long as the actual sewing! But it was such fun...and would you believe once again I dreamed about making these?:)
If you would like one leave me a comment (making sure to leave contact info)by Friday, February 19th at 6pm EST. I'm not fussy...just say something to keep me smiling!;)
Now the perfect end to a perfect day...hubby and I are going to go see a movie...and buy Maria a Valentine's Day gift....a new baseboard heater for her room!;)
I'm running out of superlatives to describe this winter...how about a record breaker? In D.C. alone this winter has broken 3 records....most snow in Dec...most snow in a two day period and.....most snow of ANY winter since they started keeping records in 1898-1899....and DC didn't have as much snow as we did!!:)
We finally dug out to the side porch...the kitties strawbale house is under the porch...they were happy to see the digging so it is easier for them to get around!
Tuesday night and all day Wednesday we had another storm....adding 12" to the 34" we already had.....and 3-4 foot drifts. So once again we spent the day digging out....our driveway is over 1000ft long....shovel, shovel, shovel...clean edges with the little tractor...shovel, shovel, shovel...clean edges with the little tractor....repeat, repeat, repeat!
Don took me to work today....more fabric fondling and filling orders...fun, fun, fun...until it was time for him to pick Maria and me up...our dirt road has not been plowed. A big tow truck got stuck and blocked the road going in one direction....a 6 foot snowdrift blocked the road in the other direction. Maria's friend Beth to the rescue! Beth picked us up at the coffee shop and dropped us off 1/2 miles from home...since the road was still blocked! Luckily Don was on the other side of the blockage...and took us home...to spagetti and meatballs! Yum!
The snow has contributed to some good things. I finished my Doll Quilt Swap 8 quilts....the one of the left is for my partner and the one on the right is my practice quilt....for me!:)
This little mini quilt square flew over to Scotland for Lynz...the blue flower Liberty of London fabric is from a dress I made for Maria when she was 1 year old....sweet memories!
Also started on a new secret project. Aren't those greens lovely....will we every see green again?;o
And here is what Maria does when stranded by the snow...dye her hair pink!:)
Maybe! My first day of work at fabulous Webfabrics ended with several inches of snow on the ground before closing! I stroked Moda OZ all afternoon and didn't even notice it coming down until time to leave....by the end of it we had another 6" on the ground. Above is the Moda OZ and the fantastic boat with lovely quarter yard remnants!
Yesterday...my second day of work...the snow started when I entered the shop. Luckily it didn't start sticking until the afternoon so I was able to play with fabric again! I think my favorite thing to do, other than help customers, is fill orders. I love seeing what everyone else is playing with but I sure wish I could see what they do with it! We are also cutting loads of fabric getting ready for Carly's trip down to Hampton, VA on Feb 25-28 for the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival XX so if you live in the area go see Carly and tell her I sent you!:) The above picture is the "Salad Bar"...it is filled with very yummy Fat Quarters and new collections. Below is our "Color Wall" where the last bits of collections shine! Alas my fun did not last long for by 2:30 the snow was really coming down and sticking so Don and Maria came to pick me up.
