I Love the Old Lucketts Store...and taking my Parents There!!:)

Mom and Dad were visiting this weekend and we went to the
Old Lucketts Store...I saw something on the porch that made me catch my breath.
Do you see what we saw?
How about this old 84"x30" soapstone topped lab table by Sheldon Labs?!!:) They don't make them like this anymore...at least not with soapstone tops. Now they are made with epoxy resin tops. It has wonderful white oak legs and weighs about 200 lbs!
Craig liked it!
But we liked it better....and my parents paid for it!! Love you Mom and Dad!!Now it is happily sitting in our utility trailer... until we can get someone to help Don bring it inside cause it ain't gonna be me!;)
I also got some embroidery done this weekend for Hoop Up. This is for Kate....Kate broke her ankle last week and had surgery to put in plates and pins ....
Kate....I hope this weird scientist puts a smile on your face!! Get better soon!!

Thanks again M & D...love you bunches!!;)

I Want Me Some Habitat!!

I'm in love...in love with Habitat! I finished this in the time it took to listen to two Fiction Plane, one Matchbox 20, one Springsteen and one Kings of Leon CDs!
Carly was nice enough to let me have some trimmings we cut from the crooked edge of new bolts...these pictures don't do the fabric justice...you really need to go check them out here!! This is the green colorway...now I NEED to get some of the grey colorway...you know me and my grey!!
I was able to make 15 squares and wanted one more so I literally went through the trash bin for the bits I cut off when I squared up all the blocks!
See that one bit on the left...about the width of a toothpick!:) The solid is
Bella Stone, the aqua sashing is Nature's Palette.
Really...go look at the fabrics....this is only a wee bit of the gloriousness that is Habitat!!:)

ORBC Round 8 and Earl Didn't Keep Us Away!

We've started Round 8, Lucky Charms, at the Old Red Barn Quilt Along...
I'm going to learn more about applique this time around....I need the learning!:)
We are using a charm pack and a few extras....I'm using Moda Pure....LOve it!:)

This month at the Bitty Block Committee we have a Halloween theme...here is my contribution. Remember these are 3.5 inch squares!;)
I needed to make a birthday present for my SIL. I thought I would make a hotpad and used some of the Pure scraps for one and 8 of my mistake triangles from my Mystery Quilt for the other. I gave Lu the one on the left. I have 52 mistake triangles left!
Thursday, Sept 2, Hurricane Earl was already spreading his clouds up to northern Virginia and we headed down to my parents house since they had been evacuated from OBX. Luckily there wasn't a direct hit...just a grazing.
Two days later Hwy 12 reopened and we headed out...with thousands of our closest beach friends. What should have been a 3 1/2 hour drive from my parents turned out to be a 6 hour drive with the last 25 miles taking 2 1/2 hours because of the sand and water over Hwy 12 on Pea Island. I'm driving the white Bronco and Don is pulling my parents 5th wheeler in front of me. He had A/C....I didn't!
It was all worth it, the beach was amazing after the storm and I have never seen so many shells! We collected a couple bags worth to put a flower bed.
Going to the beach AFTER Labor Day....what do you think?!;)

My DQS9 Has Landed...Right on my Doorstep!;)

I'm being brave tonight...or this morning since it is 12:40am...I'm posting a photo of myself with the Doll Quilt Swap 9 I received from Shayla. I didn't know how else to express my glee!;)
Ok...maybe I do...this is what I wrote in an email to Shayla:
I'm feeling faint.....I mean....I have no words! Hold on...some are coming to me....OH MY FREAKING GOSH!!! Shayla...I am tearing up here while I type this....wait...let me get a tissue. Sniff.

Ok...I'm composed. I really, really don't know how to express how much this means to me. This is definitely going into the livingroom WHEREVER I live!! You lady are a truly talented person....Counting the ways....
1. Colors, perfection
2. Stitching, amazing
3. Subject, spot on
4. Continution of the theme...mug rug, mini pins...brilliant
5. Pincushion...in green and grey...my too favorite colors...guess I'm an open book that you read perfectly!!;)
6. I LOVE goldfish!
7. The label, another mini piece of art
8. The back, splendiferous
9. Fabrics, Now that's what I'm talking about!
10. Bragging rights....you got them and I'm going to continue them!!!

Yep....time to get another tissue....now my husband seriously has to get our house finished so I can put this in a place of honor....ALWAYS!

Been a Busy Two Weeks!

Asterisk quilt top for Round 7 of the ORBC Quilt Along finished and waiting for winter for hand quilting. Too hot right now!
Ziplock baggie project to keep in my purse....1895 batiks...1 1/2" hexies.
Doll Quilt Swap 9 now living in it's new home in California.
Advent Calendar Swap....I had days nine and... twenty-one.
These two were the practice ones...so of course they are mine. My beading got much better on the others! They are 3.5" square.
Mystery quilt Clue 1...I made a mistake already. See that pile of 64 finished triangles in the middle? They look like the opened one below them....but they are supposed to look like the one on the left....hence the new pile of 128 triangles waiting to be sewn...but I just couldn't do it tonight!
Maria's graduation present..1 year 3 months late. At least she got it before going to the UK! That's an "M"....not a "W"!;)
Speaking of UK.....Maria's first purchase!
WVU colors!!
And still speaking of UK....present from coworker and pal Kerry at Webfabrics...I'm wearing them tomorrow!:) Thanks Kerry!

What we see driving down our dirt road...
...a deer and his gobbler pal!
I love the country!!

One Swap Done....Hex Part II and a Mystery!

Two weeks without the girl and we are surviving!:) Wanted to thank all of you who have asked how everything it going and share a bit...here is her blog...and here is her flickr photostream if you are curious. I wish she would label her photos better!:)Another reason why all is well is because I've just been busy. Now working 3 days a week at Webfabrics and of course working on swap commitments. Above is my finished DQS9...it is the one in the middle on the top. I have a pot holder hiding the center so my partner doesn't see what is there before it arrives. I didn't really know what I wanted to do so I made lots of squares and then just put them together. I was going to do bento boxes but they weren't going how I wanted so I just did square in square.
Here is a closer picture of the wee quilt....so do you want this one...or one of the other ones? The choice is yours!!!
I also finished a tablerunner using the leftover hex pieces from Round 6 at the
Old Red Barn Quilt-Along. The original is hanging above our bed.
We are having a lot of fun at work...check out this huge wall of rick rack! That stuff is over an inch wide...love it. I think I need to get some for this baby quilt I'm making Maria's former bosses...I'm going to use this farm fabric because they have pigs!:)
Another exciting thing happening at work is this Mystery Quilt. I'm in charge of it!:)
Customers pick 3 colors, Carly picks out the fabrics and I cut the yardage and make a kit. This month everyone is picking up their fabrics, cutting instructions and the 1st clue. They get a new clue each month for 10 months and what is amazing is they really won't know what it looks like until they get the 10th clue! Because this is my project Carly also generously gave me the fabric to make my own so I'll be able to answer any questions...I hope!:) That's my pile above...grey and brown batiks and the bottom fabric is my third color. If you look at the store's Facebook page you can see some of the other color combos customers have picked. This is going to be fun...now I just have to be brave and make the first cut!!
