Wonky Angles

I finished my 6th round quilt for the Old Red Barn Co. Quilt-Along....Hexagons...so much freakin' fun!!
I decided to make this one a wall hanging and didn't really have enough to make it big enough so I thought I would have fun with empty spaces....and wonky angles.
I say wonky angles because this was the first time I ever did inner angles. Those came out great...it was the outer corners that are a wee bit pointer than they should be but Nancy at work told me what to do the next time I attempt obtuse angles...follow that angle...so you don't get too much fabric to tuck under.
I really wanted that fabric with the black dots for the binding but it was one of the outer hexies....so I used the feather fabric to bind around that one while using the one I wanted for all the rest. I love how it came out. I think this is going over our couch.
I also finished a Crazy Nine Patch top using a Frolic bundle that Maria gave me for my birthday. She went shopping at the shop and the ladies helped her out...thanks! I used some brown Dimples for that dark frame and I plan on using the same thing for the binding.
This is going on the back. I got it from Urban Outfitters....the background is a little lighter than it should be but who cares...it's the back... you won't see it with the front and the rest of the colors match perfectly...I like it!;)
I did a little shopping at work today...all from the sale section....but I really need to stop!:)

Pink Fairy Tale for Team Tiara

This is a masterpiece created by a group (Old Red Barn Co. Quilt-Along) created by....Dana!! Our faithful leader was asked by Team Tiara if she could make a quilt for their "Quilts for a Cure" project. Dana put the challenge up to us asking if we could donate squares for her to make a quilt or two...well...those donations swelled to SIX quilts! Dana is one smart lady and after piecing two of the quilts realized that she needed a little help from her new friends and I was one of the lucky people who received a "Quilt-in-a-Box" in the mail. Fifteen awesome squares, batting, backing and fabric for sashing/binding. The squares were joyfully donated by Heidi, Caron, Brittany, Donna, Tracy and Ms Stephens.
I had an odd number of squares to work with so I put one on the back and I also used part of a duvet cover I bought on sale from Urban Outfitters for the backing....I still have enough to make a couple more lap quilts from that duvet!:) Yes, we still have plenty of snow on the ground!

I did some wavy line quilting down the middle and on the sides but didn't want that on the awesome corners so I....I can't believe I did this...but I outline the corner squares! The binding is lovely white dots on black...perfect to frame this quilt.
Some of the donated quilts will be photographed for a Quilt Calendar and in October all of them will be auctioned off on ebay and all the proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Research. Now it is time for me to pack this quilt up and mail it to Texas.
I am honored to have been able to help out and I do so in honor of my mom and mom-in-law who are survivors and my new pal Lynne of Oz who is knocking that crap out of her system right now!! YeeeeHaaaaa!! And thanks to all my fellow quilters at ORBC....you all ROCK!!:)

They think they own our road...I think they are right!:)

Look what you can get at Urban Outfitters!

Isn't that a lovely pile of fabric!! Our son works one day a week at Urban Outfitters (for the great discount) in Richmond. I don't think any of the clothes would fit me but the linens sure do!

As a parent of an employee we get 25% off, he gets 40%!! But last week I was checking out Urban's website and looking at the sale items in the bedding department and came across some tapestries, duvet covers and fabric and just couldn't resist some of them!! And I think I received 40% off all of them!

The birdcage fabric is just that...fabric that you can buy....so I did...two packs...6.4 yds total for $12!
The tapestry is the rose fabric with blue background...huge lovely piece....about 6 yds worth for $6!!
The multi-colored floral is a duvet so twice the fabric....9.2 yds for $15.00!!
And the modern print with the dove is also a duvet. The print is by Alexander Girard, he worked for Herman Miller's textile division in the 50s and that lovely piece is about 6.3 yds of fabric for $12!!!
All told I got about 28yds of fabric for $45 which translates to $1.60 per yd or even if you count the shipping and handling...which wouldn't have been what it was if I hadn't purchased some other items...it still came to $2.32 per yd!

Now I know you all can't get the discount but they have really great sales and you should check them out about once a month to look or if you are lucky enough to have an Urban Outfitters near your home even better, stop in and give it all a feel...just make sure no one is looking!;)
